Oklahoma
Woodford Shale
Location: Oklahoma
Operators to date have focused on developing liquids-rich gas production from the Mississippian Woodford shale looking toward higher flow rates and lower well costs. The Ardmore basin, SCOOP and STACK plays located in central to southern Oklahoma give a unique combination of prospects in the Woodford shale plus shale zones in the younger Mississippian Meramec. With horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, these old trend regions are attracting new interest, this time around as liquids-prone and oil-prospective, unconventional shale plays. SCOOP stands for South-Central Oklahoma Oil Province. This relatively new play targets the Woodford shale across parts of a seven-county area south and southwest of Oklahoma City. In some of the core Woodford development areas, peak 7-day gross production rates have averaged 325 barrels per day of crude oil and 3.7 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, with rich 1,275 BTU gas also yielding significant natural gas liquids, providing an average liquids rate per well of over 750 barrels per day and 2.9 million cubic feet per day of sales gas. Palo is actively pursuing underdeveloped mineral positions to create legacy assets in these emerging plays.
